Ahold Delhaize Enhances Their Ability to Ensure Consistency and Data Quality

Ahold Delhaize is one of the world’s largest food retail groups, a leader in supermarkets and e-commerce and a company at the forefront of sustainable retail. They employ more than 375,000 associates in 6,500 local groceries, and its family of 21 local brands serves more than 50 million shoppers each week across 11 countries.
Disparate Systems, Manual Processes and Delays
Before implementing Trintech’s solution, Ahold Delhaize utilized a large number of manual Excel spreadsheets to reconcile approximately 331 general ledger accounts each month, all of which were independently maintained and routinely caused delays in their financial processes.
The preparation and review of the monthly reconciliations was a challenging and time-consuming task with no visibility into whether the reconciliation and closing tasks had been completed on time, if supporting documentation was attached or, more importantly, if there were any issues that needed to be resolved.
Before implementing Trintech’s solution, Ahold Delhaize aimed to reorganize their accounting department with a goal to enhance controls on two levels. Firstly, by business process or cycle through a horizontal approach across all companies in scope. And secondly, by company with a vertical approach through all accounts, which were the responsibility of their financial accounting and control department. The overall goal was enabling the company to achieve greater control through system-driven standardization and automation.
Ahold Delhaize Chose Trintech’s Cadency Certification Solution
The implementation of Trintech’s Cadency Certification solution has allowed Ahold Delhaize to identify all of the tasks for the whole accounting department (including the set-up workflow and reminders by email for late tasks) and achieve their goals. Additionally, they are now able to reconcile 100% of their GL accounts and sub-ledgers, decrease the number of resources required to support the account reconciliation function and automate the creation, review and approval of journal entries.
